Born in Mckeesport Hospital, near the point of where three rivers meet in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Starr grew up in the woods a few miles from the Monongahela River next to a small tributary that flowed through the yard. Where clay along the banks was abundant to play with in a multitude of ways. From face and body paint, to vessels and mud pies baked in the sun. Creativity and nature have always gone hand in hand in her life. Starr has been going with the flow living and working, planting flowers and trees, creating art, and making friends in towns and in the mountains all along the Monongahela and Youghiogheny River, clear to the headwaters of the Yough where the corner of Maryland and West Virginia meet. Her mind didn’t set out to follow those waterways for so long, her heart had other plans. Starr spends much of her time on big and small adventures here and there, and a balanced portion of time at the unique off-grid creative hub in Acme, PA (www.talkingleavesart.com) built from the ground up together with her partner Thomas, together they are passionate about creating art and bringing community together in line with nature.

A multifaceted artist, Starr’s work often centers on our relationship with the overlooked ground beneath us, elements among us, and environments around us. She approaches all of her practices as a lifelong pursuit of playful curiosity, gathering new perspectives to build a deeper, more conscious connection to our immediate environment around us.
Starr’s practices are shaped by years of lived experience. Her studies and interpersonal connections in art, land, water conservation and stewardship, herbalism and whole nourishment, span a broad horizon of environments and communities.
This rich integration of diverse disciplines inspires her clear, open-hearted perspective on life.
